Five Questions That Will Tell You More About Me!

My experiences growing up in an extended family and studying in a culturally diverse environment taught me the value of different perspectives. My academic excellence, demonstrated through my top grades in IGCSEs and A-levels, along with my passion for coding, football, and cricket, reflect my drive for success and my ability to work well in teams. By contributing my background, unique perspective, and technical skills—especially in areas like programming and website development—I would enrich the university’s community with my collaborative spirit, problem-solving approach, and global outlook. My entrepreneurial experience in creating websites like Drive.ke formerly DriveinKenya.com and a game called Comet Destroyer at an age of 15 shows my innovative mindset, which I believe will add value to the university experience for others.

I aspire to leverage my university education to make a meaningful impact in Kenya, particularly in addressing the pressing issues of inadequate education and healthcare. Having grown up in an environment where I witnessed these challenges firsthand, I am motivated to contribute to systemic change. My education will equip me with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop effective solutions, such as creating innovative educational programs and improving healthcare access. I aim to collaborate with local communities, government agencies, and NGOs to implement sustainable initiatives that empower individuals and enhance overall well-being. My goal is to foster a brighter future for my fellow Kenyans.

One disagreement I recall having was with my older brother. I was expressing my belief that history is both important and fascinating, but he didn’t share my perspective. I argued that without an understanding of history, we wouldn’t be able to honor great figures like Alan Turing, Al-Khwarizmi, Einstein, and Newton. Moreover, I argued, studying history helps us learn from past mistakes, understand different cultures and perspectives, and recognize the patterns that shape our present and future. From that encounter, I learned that history may not resonate with everyone, even though it certainly does for me and it also ultimately taught me the value of listening to differing perspectives.

The top three things my roommates might like to know about me are: I am more of an introvert, so I value my quiet time and personal space, although I do enjoy socializing. Hygiene is very important to me, as it is influenced by my faith and beliefs; I strive to maintain a clean and organized living environment and hope my roommates share similar values. Lastly, I have a witty sense of humor that I love to share, as I enjoy making light of situations and bringing laughter into our home.

One experience that stands out to me is when one of my brothers explained what an ‘app’ is. He also initiated a friendly competition among my siblings to see who could create an app first, promising a prize for the winner. My siblings and I searched endlessly for a way to do it but couldn’t find any solutions. Eventually, I decided to take my first online course, and after a few years, I managed to create the Comet Destroyer game. I’m still waiting for that prize from my brother, but I’m also incredibly grateful to him for introducing me to this field!
